This trail starts at the Wheeler Creek trailhead and follows an old road that dates back who knows how many decades. The trail is pretty much all uphill, but at a more gradual grade than many other trails around here. During the summer this trail is a "go to" to get out of some of the summer valley heat. The trail follows Wheeler Creek, a year round creek that drains the Snowbasin area.
The trail itself is wide with good footing all the way. The scenery is beautiful, sheer canyon walls, a rushing creek, and lots of trees. At about 1 mile there is a trail junction for the Ice Box Trail. Be aware that there can be moose on this trail, especially in the winter. This trail is very popular with families out for a hike as well as mountain bikers, especially on the weekends and summer evenings. The parking area can fill to overflowing. An alternative is to make the drive up Old Snowbasin Road to the Art Nord trailhead and park there. Total round trip is about 3.6 miles with just under 700' of gain.
