National Trails Day Recap

June 1

The first Saturday in June every year is National Trails Day and this year, TFNU partnered with several other groups in the community to make our 2024 event our biggest education celebration yet!

The week prior to June 1st, our Adaptive Committee partnered with Ogden Valley Adaptive Sports to offer a Free Community Adaptive Group Ride at North Fork Park. This allowed adaptive trail chair and mountain bike chair users to come out and join others on Trail 365 for a group ride. Riders who have never been on adaptive equipment also had a chance to try them out. TFNU Trail Crew Lead, Alyssa Lommell, took a spin in an adaptive mountain bike and instantly had a better feel and understanding for easy ways they can adjust how they can maintain and build trails.

Volunteer Trail Work Nights

Our Trail Crew hosted our first two volunteer nights along the North Ogden Overlook Trail, giving it a much needed makeover. 20 community volunteers worked for a total of 50 hours clearing, cutting and addressing other issues over two nights. It looks amazing!

Guided Nature Hike

Our Education Committee partnered with Cottonwood Canyons Foundation staff with input from local WSU Botany professor, Jim Cohen, led a group of 30+ community members on a guided flora & fauna hike up the 29th street trailhead where they discussed many of the different species of flora & fauna - both invasive and native - that are found along our Wasatch Front.

And then on Saturday, June 1st, TFNU was joined by 16 other local groups, businesses, clubs and organizations for a morning of fun, education, demonstrations, questions and more inside our event located inside the popular Farmer’s Market Ogden. Thank you to Ogden Downtown Alliance and Farmer’s Market Ogden for letting us host our event in conjunction with the weekly market. And huge thanks to our participating partners: Arc’Teryx, BackCountry Horsemen of Utah, B.A.G., Extreme Motus, Fleet Feet, Weber Davis Mountain Biking, Go Hike! Utah, Ogden Trails Network, Ogden Valley Adaptive Sports, Pliking Club of Ogden, Range Realty, TFNU Trail Crew, Utah Mountain Lion Conservation and Wasatch Peaks Credit Union.

With hundreds and hundreds of people stopping by, and 150 people and dogs registering for the 2024 TFNU Peak Challenge - sponsored by Wasatch Peaks Credit Union - there was no shortage of excitement.

We are grateful to all of our amazing community partners and supporters, our TFNU Members as well as our Trail Community here in Northen Utah.

We put trails first and with your continued help, we will continue to do so for a generation to come.

Thank you to Weber County Ramp for including National Trails Day in their Free Summer Saturday Programming
