2024 Winner of the Richard S. White Friend of the Trails Award

2024 Winner of the Richard S. White Friend of The Trails Award

Written By Kelli Barkema

April 30

We are pleased to announce, Sandy Crosland, as the recipient of the 2024 Richard S. White Friend of the Trails Award. Sandy was one of the founding members of Weber Pathways and one of the first members of the Governing Board. Sandy has faithfully served TFNU for nearly 30 years. In addition to her service as an original member of our Governing Board, she has also served on both the Executive Committee and is currently a member of our Advisory Board.

TFNU was originally formed in 1995 as Weber Pathways by three concerned citizens who wanted to build a pedestrian trail in Ogden Canyon. However, concerns for private property rights in the canyon pointed the founder down a different ‘path’. This founder, was Sandy. With her at the helm, and with their vision and leadership, trails were established in Weber County, including the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, The Pineview Loop Pathway and the Centennial Trail.

While Sandy still hasn’t given up on this vision of getting a trail through Ogden Canyon, and she still does what she can to ensure that this is eventually a reality for the Ogden Community, she has been incredibly important to the creation of the Weber County Trail System.

In addition to her volunteering, Sandy and her family have been generous financial supporters all along the way.

Sandy has served as an advocate for TFNU and in our mission to plan, promote, preserve, protect, construct and maintain trails and open spaces here in Northern Utah. In her current role as Advisory Board Member, Sandy continues to be invaluable with her guidance and support of both strategic decisions as well as in the educating and raising awareness of the importance of trails and their proper use here in our community.

Each year, the winner of the Friends of the Trails award is asked to choose a non-profit in the community who supports the mission of TFNU to donate their $500 award prize to. Sandy graciously asked that her award go back to TFNU to continue the works she and her friends began almost 3 decades ago.

Thank you, Sandy!
