Hikers on the Jump Off Canyon Loop with a good imagination will see huge rocks that remind them of an Indian, a bear, a nose and other fantastic formations. The trail is named for Jump Off Canyon. A steep, rocky trail to the canyon’s waterfall is just east of the two upper bridges. In the spring, the canyon’s waterfall becomes an attractive goal for hikers.
The 1.8 mile route has north and south sections that connect to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail to form a loop. The trail has wonderful views to the west, north and south, along with great views of Ben Lomond Peak and colorful sunsets.
An open canal near the trail can be dangerous for dogs and children when the water is running from spring to fall.
Just north of the upper bridges you may see an 18-foot high rock formation known as “Indian Rock.” It closely resembles the figure on the old Indian head or buffalo nickel.
Pro Tip: Because the trail is mostly open country on a west-facing slope, it is best hiked in the morning or evening.
