Alyssa reports:
Things are drying out up on the trails, and with that it becomes trickier to determine where drains need to be constructed out on the trail. This last week we have begun to shift our focus on rebenching "nasty" segments of trail. Trail that is rutted out, loose and covered in rocks. There is a particularly rough segment of trail on the upper leg of the BST above Weber State that we have been working on rehabbing, including knocking off the outer berm, and capturing as much dirt as we can back on the trail and packing it in to look like nice finished trail surface. These projects are quite fun because there is a lot to take into consideration.
Beyond "rehabbing" tough segments of trail, we have a few other fun projects that we have been investing energy into. We won't get into too much detail on those yet, but stay tuned!
One last note, we are hosting two volunteer nights this next upcoming week. Tuesday, May 28th starting at 5:30 pm at the North Ogden Overlook trailhead. This is a 'beginner' trail maintenance session where we will focus on trimming trail corridor and clearing tread. Thursday, May 30th starting at 5:30 pm, also at the North Ogden Overlook, will be an 'advanced' style trail maintenance session. Volunteers can expect to be swinging sharp tools and moving dirt. Come join us! We will also be attending the Farmer's Market on June 1st for National Trails Day. Stop by our booth to say hi, and attempt the trail crew challenge! Happy Trails!
