Alyssa reports:
This week we started out at the South end of the BST, at Beus trailhead specifically. Beus Canyon is beautiful this time of year. We worked our way through Beus Canyon trail clearing drains and trimming open blind corners and overgrown areas.
It was in this area that we found an excessively wet segment of trail. Unsure of why the trail was so muddy, we began to investigate what the cause may be. Upon initial inspection it seemed that the spring runoff was raging, as usual in the spring. Upon further inspection, we discovered that there was cut brush, logs, and leaves that had been tossed in the stream. We cleared out the slash and almost immediately the trail thanked us. There was still a little water on the trail though! We managed to locate seeps in the rocky hillside that were also contributing to the dampness. We got to work constructing water bars in the rocky terrain to direct the water off the trail. By the completion of this project the mud had nearly dried up!
After working our way through Beus Canyon we jumped on the BST and began working our way north, continuing to clear and open up drains and trim back overgrown corridors.
